Marketing Strategy – The Ultimate Love Story

“People love romance.” I saw this quote in a recent ad for People magazine and I have to say, I agree. We all want to see the heroine swept off her feet by the ruggedly handsome hero, risking life and limb, to rescue her and win her heart forever. We get lost in 800 page trilogies that pull us into worlds where girls fall for vegan vampires and wealthy young business magnates with domination issues. The authors of these epic tales have captivated us to the point that we read until our eyes burn or the sun comes up and only when sated, can we get up and start our day.

How can we, as business owners, market to our customers and get that level of committment? It all starts with your strategy. Creating a page turning strategy that will pull your customers into your story starts with three steps:

1. Get to know your customers and be where they are. If you’re on Facebook but they’re on Pinterest, you’re missing opportunities to connect with them.
2.  Create interesting and amazingly fresh content that doesn’t sell to them, but entices them to want to know more. Customers are bombarded with millions of messages everyday and it will only be those that take them by the shirt collar and pull them close for an intimate embrace that will get and keep their attention.
3. Be consistently attentive. Stories that are hot then turn cold are disappointments. Pay special attention to your customer’s needs and deliver solutions that anticipate and meet those needs.

If you think about it, good marketing strategy is the ultimate love story. One in which you passionately pursue your customers and are willing to risk it all for the opportunity to cherish them and call them your own. But anyone who has ever read a good romance novel knows that there are always twists and turns, break ups and make ups, along the way. But, if you keep reading, the conclusion is always the same. The intended pair fall in love forever and ever. The End.
