It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of Year For Networking
The perks of the holiday season are plentiful, as business owners anxiously await a few days off to spend with family and friends.  In fact, you’re downright giddy in anticipation of turning on your “out of office” and forwarding all calls to voicemail. But, as visions of sugar plums, holiday shopping, and football games dance in your head, you’re reminded that this, too, is the most wonderful time of year for networking.
Sure, you’ve gone to networking events throughout the year, but holiday mixers can provide the perfect opportunity to use the festive atmosphere to establish more meaningful connections that can pay off next year.
Focus on Making New Connections
Holiday parties provide an excellent opportunity to build your network and establish goodwill. Many events give you the chance to reconnect with your professional circle and make new connections. Go into every event with a networking mindset and a plan of action. Make a goal for yourself to make 5-10 new connections and be prepared with your introduction and business cards. But, keep the sales pitch at home. Listen to their story and find an opportunity to connect on a personal level. The engagement will be more meaningful and memorable.
If small talk isn’t your thing, take some time beforehand and jot down a few “getting to know you” questions that can get a conversation going.
Give the Gift of Gratitude and Follow Up
Networking is the gift that can keep giving. The connections you make can feed your pipeline for the months to come. But as with any new connection, the power is in the follow-up.
If you want to stand out, consider reaching out to at least 25-50 people in your professional network with a branded holiday card, or at the very least, a personalized email. Remind them that you appreciate the relationship and look forward to the year ahead. Also, consider sending a small gift as a token of your appreciation to those who were instrumental to your success, or who may play a vital role in the year to come.
Don’t Forget Your Employees
The holidays are a great time to enjoy yourself and show appreciation for your employees. Host a company party that gives your employees a chance to spend time with one another outside of the day to day responsibilities. Fostering a culture of gratitude during this season helps build team spirit and can transform your employees from workers to brand ambassadors.
